Get on the FBI's list of top ten most wanted. Surely you will get many .gov backlinks! :)

Seriously, Matt Cutts has stated that these domains are no more valuable then .com's. What is important is the pagerank of the site that links to you.

Really this is a new news for me since I was in impression that .gov plays a vital role in development of links

.gov sites normally have high PR because they have been establsihed for years and have many links pointing to them. The value of a .gov link is no different then a .com. It all boils down to the pagerank of the page.

In the past I got some .gov and .edu links, and I can tell you neither provided a boost in my rankings. Granted, those pages had low PR, but this was enough evidence for me to move on. Not that I don't like .gov or .edu backlinks, but its not worth my time to seek them out.

Well, I tried it and found no benefit. My time would have been better spent trying to get links from niche related sites. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. A PR 3 .gov gives no more SEO weight then a PR 3 .com. The exception being the number of outbound links, etc.

I would agree that everything Matt says should be looked at with a fine tooth comb. He is not one to give false information. In such cases he simply does not respond to questions or dodges important details.

At least someone has a little humor around here! :)

well in my experience you have to have the .gov and .edu links pointed at you for a long time to really get the benefits....3 months +

most ppl just go to textlinkbrokers etc and buy .gov and .edu links and quit before they actually can become useful....also watch out for the nofollow if you are finding these links through blogs.

From all my experience I can say that sites PR matter not the extension.
Link from .gov and .info are same.
giving more money for .gov means wasting your money

    Yes that is our site....

We deal with search engine optimization companies and many advertisers. What I'm trying to tell him is that hes getting confused with .gov links only reason .gov links are talked about highly is because they generally come from older sites or they are presell pages, but other then that there nothing more special about them because a big majority of the time your renting links from them vs buying permanent links.

Generally .gov links are not for link exchange,
and it does not mean for your website if you are having .gov link but not related to your website.
Whichever the link you made should be relevant to your website, than and than it will have some weight for your website...
