    Hello everybody,

These days some peoples, almost all those who owns directory(or directories) are wondering how can google identify paid links, I got following ideas listed below, read & rate them, and don't forget to post any idea that you got.

    • scanning your site for directory script and than searching your site for payment options
    • Calculating quality of links
    • Calculating supporting information / description along with links

Share your ideas in this regards.

    Goodluck

Neither one of those will identify paid links if you have a quality directory. Yes, some submitters submit for PageRank or other purposes but for a directory owner they pay for review time, not for a link or a listing.

There's no way that Google can identify paid links this way. Millions of business' websites have links to non-related sites just because the business owners know each other, or live in the same geographic region, etc.

If Google is going to start banning sites because they have links from unrelated websites, what's to stop me from creating hundreds to unrelated links to my competitors' sites to get them banned?

He he he ... whatever you say ... I don't want to argue with people who don't have a single clue how google topical relativity works ....

Just to let you know that irrelevant links are not passing any pr (or at-least very very low amount) compared to relative topical keyword links. I've experimented a lot on that ...

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

I can't see how it could possible know for 100% sure it's a paid link. I think someone needs to update this wiki page and stick MC on there as an example.

No offense to him personally I think on the whole does a great job for the webmaster community.

I really don't think there is a way to algorithmically identify paid links. So, they'll just penalize everyone, ya know? Unless, of course, you use TLA and they see the TLA code on your site, which is a possibility.

i think google will also check the place of the link now.

people are mostly putting links to the footer while they are selling links

Yea - So what ABOUT TLA....

How come they don't mention that site .......

I mean TLA sells thousands of links,

Couldn't they just crawl TLA "Inventory" and see who is selling what?

I don't think google will leave it down to a bot to identify paid links. It will be upto people to report it. If they are really determined they might have some staff track the sites down.

If you have lots of unrelated links in the footer or a collection of unrelated links at a certain place its very easy to know that it is paid links. Or if they are not paid, its easy to identify them as placed there for SEO purposes.
