Way to redirect 301 for this

Hi,

My website have many backlinks to www address and little for non www (checked with siteexplorer yahoo), when i search for a keyword it rank top with address no www
I should redirect 301 to www or non www address for this domain?

now in 2010 no matter u redirect to 301 or not.
just change ur back links to ur new www domain

 

It is better keep just one form either www version or non www version. I think you should do redirection to www version or just set preferred version in Google webmaster tools.

Whether you use www or not will not affect SEO, but allowing both to be used at the same time will affect SEO, as the search engines see http://yourdomain.com and http://www.yourdomain.com as two different URLs. Decide which version to use and 301 redirect the others.

Also, in Google Webmaster Tools - Site configuration > Settings > Preferred domain - you can tell them which is your preferred domain (canonical domain).

If you use a sitemap, make sure the URLs in the sitemap also use your preferred domain, as Google uses this version if there is any doubt.

yes, you need to redirect non-www to www.

Its better practice to redirect to www from non-www.
