Certainly a measurable amount... 40,000+ sites have adopted it, so getting an http request for the image for every page view of every site running it. And it's of course more than a "simple" file request... each request does 2 SQL queries (one to locate the user, and one to log that location).

So if the average site gets 500 page views in a day (that's just a made-up number... no clue what it really is), that's 20,000,000 hits/day that are being logged... so that adds 231 hits/second 24/7 plus 462 SQL queries/second.

So yeah... certainly enough to notice, but still no where near the hits the ad network is generating (impression tracking).

I swear it isn't me! It doesn't even work for me

I think my firewall blocks the "referer" info so all I get is the default map.

I just took a look at the geo visitor tool last night. It's really cool. There were several members in my area & a mod in victoria bc. Too bad you can't see who they are. (yes, I know that's not practical!)

It's not that it isn't practical, just a privacy issue. In reality it would be easy to do.
