way to check referral address in .htaccess

I need to modify my htaccess for one of my directories to accomplish the following.

If the word mail appears anywhere in the referral address, then it needs to be redirect to site a

If there is not a referral address or the referral address does not contain the word mail, then redirect to site b

Thank you for your help

 

I think only a script can do that.
