suppose i have 2 subdomains abc.domainname.com & xyz.domainname.com both abc and xyz have same content.
sorry for not being clear, would it be a black-hat technique? Also, both the subdomains would be visible to the crawlers but traffic would be directed to only 1.
if both pages have the same content, then google will treat it as duplicate content, and you will get problems!! so don't do that
the sub domain which will be not visible to the visitors will be penalized so will the page visible to the visitors get higher serps??
you can block one website to use robot.txt.Then spider will not crawl that website and it will not be spamming..
i dont want to block the crawler purposely, i want both the sub domains to be indexed. i just read somewhere it would be called as mirror. Does having a mirror increase my chances of SERPs or chances of getting banned. I apologies if i sound stupid cause i havent really implemented such stuff, just a thought that came up so wanted to know if anybody would have done so and knows the consequences. @grg, y wouldn't you recommend it?
If you're not trying to deceive search engines, it's not called black hat. Using abc. and xyz. won't do you any harm. However, you could be wasting your time as only one of the two will be recognized while the other is left in the dark.
why not just create 1 then, apply seo and gain higher serps the good ole fashioned way =) creating 2 would be a waste of your time, unless you was thinking of cloaking (ie send google to a spammy one filled with keywords and your visitors to another)?
The subdomain with higher popularity will rank on the SERPs and the other one will be just ignored. but that won´t give you higher rankings on the subdomain that is considered because the other one will be completely ignored, it won´t be of any help. I don´t think that your whole domain will be penalised, just the dup content with the lower popularity. Also, it´s not really a penalty because as soon as you place unique content on the subdomain that is ignored it´ll rank again
I think that you would set of the duplicate content filter and one subdomain would rank in the serps whilst the other remains in the supplemental results.
