Does anyone know about Google Co-op , and how can it help in SEO practice....!?!?, .....googleco-op also has annotation ur information wat does dat mean?? See->http://www.google.com/coop
I haven't really investigated it too much because it seems like a half baked idea in its present form to me but here's what I've gathered it is: A way to share your bookmarked areas of expertise with people who decide to opt-in to your search feeds. Basically what that means is if you know alot about "widgets" then you can list a link of related websites about those widgets in your google coop setup then get people to subscribe to your coop and they'll see your listings at the top of a search about widgets. Seems really pointless to me in its present form, I mean who is going to subscribe to other peoples search feeds in the overall market? I dont know, maybe it will fly, what do i know..
It's all social networking.. so if you use that, ur google search will show results not just based on google ranking/relevance algos, but also based on recommendations of people you have subscribed in your coop setup. and it can be good as well as bad for SEOs in long term.. e.g. if lot of people subscribe to Mr X (because he is top scientist in a field), and he recommends your website, then you are going to get more hits..
I have checked it out when they introduced it a while ago, but I couldn't quite get the concept. Basically you can be a publisher and submit content to them (presumably advertising your articles on your sites). People can in turn subscribe to it. I didn't quite understand the difference to RSS and to such networks as feedster. Problematic to me was the format they require. Its some XML but I didn't look at it too closely since it wasn't RSS. I don't know why though. This is how it works (if you bother to read all this): http://www.google.com/coop/docs/guide_topics.html Would be nice to hear how some of you are using google coop.
In its first incarnation co-op lets academic organisations tell google what web content (web sites) are good (and i guess indirectly what is not good). Basically in its early form it will allow univerisites and education institutions to rank good content sites, give them points which google will use to page rank that site. Example if your website content is deemed useful by these coop users then google will give your site a good ranking. Thats the basic premise of the coop (googles way of cleaning up the web by getting us to do it). If academics like your site then expect a good page rank in the future!!
