I think the reason it's quieter now is because a lot of the instigators have been removed or asked to leave.

If it goes you'll have people making stupid off topic political posts in places they do not belong. That's why its there ;)

Never said you should remove it, just said I didn't care if the section died. =)

At no point have I seen any statement from staff that they wanted to grow that section. In fact every statement they've posted on the topic indicates its existence is only tolerated as a safety valve to keep that content out of other sections.

A lot of the posters that once kept it hopping did so with their "extra" ID, or with several IDs created in support of each other. As methods of identifying and removing the frequent flyers improves, the activity they generated is bound to decrease. Hard to see a downside to that from the staff perspective. Just means the moderation methods are working as designed.

If the lack of controversy is bothering you, you can always go play in the directory subforums again.

Doesn´t matter how much you try, it doesn´t look like you are becoming a moderator here so the chance of making this forum to a money making machine for you seems very limited and since you give me an advice, I would like to give you one. Instead of wasting your time here why don´t you go back to the forums and directories that you are moderator already and try to maximize your money making opportunities there.

To know what I am talking about, you need to know the history. Are you still editor in ODP? Rob and his time in real estate section are stuff of a legend. You don´t think he is running around and trying to become moderator in every forum or editor in every directory because he has so much free time on his hand, do you?

LOL. Looks like somebody skimmed past the discussion above about personal attacks.

[and fwiw... technically rumors you make up about others don't qualify as "legend". the term you're looking for is "character assassination"]

Any benefit I gained from this forum has been completely secondary and unexpected. Just completely happenstance.

I guess the reason most people here that are successful at what they do and earn a living doing it did not join the forums with that intent. That's probably why they are successful. Has there been money to be made here? Of course, but that was never the original intent from my perspective. I joined to continue to receive support for a product Digital Point Solutions produced.

Anything that grew out of that relationship did so out of pure luck and being in the right place at the right time. I think those days peaked several years ago for the most part.

That being said, there is a majority of good contributors here that offer help, advice and an ear themselves to listen and learn. For those, making money is great, but secondary.

Julian, you must realize that we all have actual day jobs that pay the bills. No one I know frequents this forum with the goal of earning a living off of entering into a diatribe with you.
