Was I scammed by Iain Lewington?

Does anyone have any legal advice for me please, I joined a betting service run by someone called Iain Lewington for betting tips/advice.

I gave him £1,400 in return for a guaranteed income of £49 per week, and the £1,400 was guaranteed to be safe according to him and could be returned at any point in time.

Iain Lewington was basically trading on Betfair on my behalf and taking a small cut of the profits.

He said that Betfair had crashed while he was trading so he lost all my £1,400 I gave him which was supposed to be guaranteed safe.

Am I legally entitled to my money back as he claimed in his advertising that the £1,400 was guaranteed secure and would only be used to trade on my behalf.

Has anyone else had dealings with Iain Lewington?

Can anyone offer any advice where I stand legally, and should I be entitled to my £1,400 back which was supposed to be securely guaranteed.

Any solicitors/legal experts on here, would you be so kind to advise me, is my £1,400 gone for good or can I legally get this back from him?

    Thanks.
    Emily

at the very least he should be able to ask betfair for the money. Money don't just disappear, even when the server crashes

    Thanks for your reply.

I know that it can't be lost while it is in the betfair balance, but he said he lost it because he had placed all £1,400 as a bet and couldn't complete the trade.

So Iain Lewington says he lost all £1,400 so can't repay me.

I don't know what type of trading he was doing, he is very vague but I think it was arbitrage betting he was doing on my behalf.

I don't believe that he lost my money because of a betfair problem and I think he just wants to keep my money :(

I think he did scam you. If Betfair is a gambling site then, yes, I'm 99% sure it's a scam.

You are entitled, I believe, to the money if it was written down on an official document or something similar.

Iain Lewington is a scammer.... bettingsystemreviews.co.uk ~ he is a huge scammer.

he has scammed over half a million in the past. i mean the chance of Betfair "going down" once is possible but this happens every time the guy places a bet with other members money.

Quite... Unlucky there. Never do betting with a guaranteed income because the whole point of betting is that it is unpredictable... there is no way you can have a guaranteed ammount back each week...

Get legal representation involved and try to track others who have been scammed by him, that way you can split the costs of legal fees while trying to get your money back. If enough people have been scammed by him you can go to the ISP by law and get his details for his arrest (if the court allows and agrees).

I'm sure if you are willing to give that ammount of money away to someone you hardly know I am pretty sure you can afford legal fees!

There is no such thing as quick/easy money in this world! You need to work very hard at some point to get a good return...

    Regards.

Let others learn from the mistake that you made - that's the only good that's going to come from this... There's no way that a company like betfair is going to be beaten by a gambler... this is a classic 'too good to be true' scam.

    have a look at http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=42284
apparently solicitors latter will scare the guy, you might want to give it a go, probably won't get 100% refund since you would have to pay the legal fees

If it was written down in an offical document or the like (even if it was an advertisement because he was guaranteeing a return of the original investment), you may have some recourse.

If he is swindling money off so many people then surely something can be done about this guy i.e. even reported to the authorities.
