Yeah, it's kind of a traffic exchange. Send me visitors to rate your dir, and I'll send you more traffic.

Malcolm, I have been allowing it as long as the ratings have been honest, but when I run out the new system I am going to update the rules so that no incentives of any kind can be offered for ratings.

I'm surprised that so many of you have got the email...this guy has obviously been running for a while.

I haven't received such email or I might have but I usually do not care about these type of scam.
Anyway good luck with your filtering; I'm happy to be listed there, but only had couple of fair rating.

I got this mail for sure. Never responded though.
    15 Votes is nothing. :(
Work hard on your directory and quality of listings, timely acceptance and most importantly customer satisfaction, and be sure that you will get 1500 votes, all genuine and that too freely. :)

Masetek: XHII Directory is slowly and slowly climbing there in free directory list and am sure there ain't a single fake rating in there :D It's just because of the timely acceptance and quality of directory :)

Hi Masetek and first of all congrats for the great service you offer.

I just figured how you can stop this idiot:

Rule1: The votant must use for vote the e-mail address he used for submission
Rule2: The directory owner receives an e-mail notification that his directory was voted.
Rule3: The directory owner must confirm with a screenshot of the link that the submission was made by that e-mail address (in admin panel either by holding mouse over the link (and safest) either by clicking edit link (not to safe since can be tricked)
Rule4: You validate the vote (or hire someone cheap)

This can also be tricked by temporary changing the e-mail that submitted the link but would kill this idiot offering such service. I wouldn't pay $15 to waste time on changing e-mails in my admin panel.

PS: Probably all the people on DP will receive this since I saw a list of 35.000 email addresses for sale for $35 and he probably bought that.

    Hey,

Just another thought on how you can prevent this.... create a mod which directory owners install. Then when a person votes they need to provide exact email and url that was submitted.

Your system can then connect to the mod automatically using XML and obtain a response from the directory as to whether or not the vote was real.

I know it might take a bit of persuasion to get directory owners to install the mod, but as it is for their own benefit it could work.

    Anyway, just a thought.
