I was in the middle of purchasing RPG.ORG, and yeah I feel that he's attempted to scam me. I've made a chargeback, because something felt fishy. I'll be getting my money for sure, as my bank has guaranteed me warranty up to £10,000 per transaction (about $14k) however $800 (the amount I paid) is guaranteed to be in my pocket. Funny thing is, he wanted me to pay by Western Union. I've been in this industry too long to realize when something's fishy, so I negotiated till PayPal. I knew it was too good to be true, or the seller was just a 'quickie' to getting this name for it's cash (and, it didn't get any bids on SitePoint so I was unsure about this). He has the domain at NameCheap, but he gave me 'modification access' which he took off me this morning (however, I made the dispute about 2 minutes after I sent money). So, basically, I had no idea that the domain wasn't 'actually' in my control but somehow this guy made it 'appeared' in my account area. I don't understand why NameCheap didn't clearly have a 'message' telling us that the domain isn't actually ours, because a lot of other people could be scammed from this 'attempt'. He said he won't be online until Saturday, however I found he responded to my dispute this morning saying 'He sent it' without any actual proof. He's called "CentrixMedia" on SitePoint. http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/users/308118/profile His information: Name: Hanson Lee Email: Thanks. Just warning you, don't buy this domain as it's too good to be true. I have enough experience to get myself out of this, but other people may not.
It is indeed. And what shocks me, is the fact NameCheap domains dep said this 'You should always buy through NameCheap marketplace, otherwise we don't care if you get scammed.' I told them to lock the domain, and they didn't do crap, even when I have a rock solid 10 sources to back me up. Funny how when my someone 'claims' my WHOIS the registrars jump for it. Never mind, life still moves on.
