Warning if you use project honeypot

I use project honeypot on my site to both trap and block malicious web bots that harvest emails and post spam comments in forums and blogs.

A few weeks ago it seems that Yahoo's webcrawler was for some reason flagged as a malicious web bot and it's IP blocked. So instead of crawling my site as normal it was redirected to the suspicious IP page of my site and sent to the depths of web bot hell. Because of this my site's titles, descriptions, and preferred url version was all messed up and our ranking has dropped by 10 pages for most keywords, and have completely fallen out for our main keyword.

I spoke to a Yahoo employee on the feedback page and he doesn't understand the project honeypot and doesn't think websites should use it. Way to go Yahoo! Way to be on board with new technology to reduce spam lol.

Anyway, if you use project honeypot and you care about your rank in Yahoo you might want to stop using it until Yahoo's webcrawlers are no longer flagged as suspicious.
