I knew one day that people would be able to decode our scripts and share it. Now it has happened. It is available all over the internet. Other than tracking down and legally attacking them, what is the best way to protect the script now that it has been decoded and shared? Or what would be a faster way to track all the people using our script illegally? Thanks
Is the software web based ? Encode it with IonCube or Zend. Therefore the source code is unusable/unreadable/unmodifyable.
Both IonCude and Zend have been decoded. It always just matter of time. And believe me, the warez scene has MUCH better coders than any company will ever get.
It has been ionCubed, and is decoded. Warez people are hackers; they are the people who hack into systems, scripts, sites, everything... I need more ideas. Thanks
Did you had a look at : http://www.sourceguardian.com/ ? It's not so wide spread as Zend or Ioncube, and maybe their algo is harder to break.
If someone wants your script badly enough, they will be able to get it, simple as that. The best things you can do is if you find any site selling / giving away your script, contact the host of that site and get them to shut the site down. If you catch a person doing this or who has the script, you could find their details and contact them to personally discuss the matter. If something smells fishy with their reply, you could take the matter further. However, it would be hard to do this if the script is now widely available.
well it was probably like ScriptMafia who took your script and nulled it and gave it out. and if its nulled you cant do nothing to them. you could report all the links that you find on the net of your script to rapidshare or anyone else who has it uploaded and they will remove the links.
Well there is something you can do that may help. If you ask the real buyers of your script what domain they'll use it on, then when you see a website using your scrpit that is not verified, you can contact their Domain Name Provider and/or host.
i searched a few warez forums and databases and i only found one post which requested the file so you are not that exposed yet, do you know which forums/sites/directories have em?
sheet man, this is inevitable, these hacker have nothing better to do, my main recommendation is to concentrate on your site to get an advantage on your POTENTIAL competition after people start using similar script and start to sell your script yourself, since its already going be for sale, you might as well make some money
yea, so what their is a leakage of the script into the warez community, move on and mabe make a Version #2 with some protection and keep the business flowing .
I've had just about every piece of software I've ever written eventually make its way into the warez scene. It's very frustrating, but it's inevitable if you create something decent. I learned not to waste time and money trying to protect against theft, but instead just spend my time making better software and moving on. If it's a good piece of software it will get warezed no matter how much protection you put into it, so basically anything beyond protecting against casual theft I don't even really bother with anymore.
There is no way to stop this from happening. Think about it, Microsoft, a gazillion dollar company cant even stop it. If you code software or scripts, be ready to have them pirated. But really, most of the people downloading your stuff, would have never bought it in the first place. I download massive amounts of pirated stuff from usenet, 95% of the stuff I download I would have never ever paid for anyway. I'm just downloading it cause it's there, sometimes it's fun to play with stuff or see how something works. =\
