Spot on hextraordinary! After a little digging and finding the complete story: http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Diplomacy/8978.htm Of course, those that are not offended that hezbollah *continues* to hide behind women and children, would certainly not be offended that hezbollah is also deliberately preventing the transfer of medical aid and blocking civilians from leaving.
With regards to the collapsed building in Kafar Qana, here are a few interesting points to think about. 1) Israel tries its best to avoid killing any civilians. When some accidentally die, it is quick to appologize. The Hezbollah targets primarily civilians, and when it kills some, it is proud of it. 2) When israel accidentally kills civilians, it is condemned by everyone (including israelis and the rest of the world). When the Hezbollah succeeds in killing civilians deliberately, it is hailed by the civilian Lebanese population. 3) Israel asked the Lebanese civilians to evacuate the region by throwing leaflets before hand, the Hezbollah tries its best to block their way out. 4) The Hezbollah fires from within civilians and hides among them. They also like to fire from right next to UN stations. It happened last week (a UN officer even addmitted so) and also 10 years ago (also in Kafar Qana) 5) About 150 rockets were fired onto Israel from Kafar Qana. That's about 2 tons of explosives. The town still has many rockets hidden in civilian buildings. Qana villiage is a military target. Lebanese civilians should learn. If they see Hezbollah militia men, they should run away from them. Hezbollah terrorists care about the life of Lebanese civilians just as much as they care about the life of Israelis - not at all. Dani Gilerman, Israel's ambassador to the UN described it well: If you go do sleep with a rocket, don't be surprised if you explode in the morning. (It was also said about the Lebanese government that if you go to sleep with a dog [hezbollah], don't be surprised that you wake up with flees). And now a really bizarre point. The Israeli Airforce attacked the building around 12 to 1 am in the morning, just after Hezbollah men hid there, after firing Katyusha rockets from nearby. The building however collapsed 7 or 8 hours afterwards! Now how do you explain that?! My speculation is that it is such a large building, it takes more than 7 or 8 hours to evacuate it. Take a guess. As an Israeli, I can attest that almost all Israelis are simply fed up with the Hezbollah. They have been harassing our border once too many, and there is no way Israel will stop unless: 1) They return the two kidnapped soldiers. 2) The Hezbollah will be disarmed as they should have long ago following UN resolution 1559. Every nation has the right to live peacefully without having rockets fall on it from time to time, or its citizens kidnapped beyond internationally recognized borders, including Israel. Having grown up in Northern israel I have seen rockets fall ever since I was a kid. enough is enough. I am really sorry for the Lebanese population, but they should have taken care of their garbage before. Now that it stinks, Israel has no choice but to take care of it itself.
I have a huge problem with it myself. And I can't believe *some* overlook hezbollah hiding behind these innocent people. But not all share that outrage.
bugon, your analysis couldn't be more accurate or eye opening. If it were any other country in the world, especially a muslim country, many here would be taking a different stance. Unfortunately anti-Semitism runs rampant throughout the world causing people to turn a blind eye to reality. Excellent post!
Israel using cluster bombs and breaking international laws (and the geneva conventions) during their civilian-murderring rampage? No... never
Excellent biased reporting, yo! You fell right into it! Hmm, what kind of stories does the author write? Let's have a look, shall we? http://www.alternet.org/authors/6462/ No wonder he's an "independent journalist."
There is wrong on both sides, Israel has gradually over the last year or two been giving way to a more peacfull way of doing things. They have taken decisions to move people out of occupied land etc that seriously hurt its governemnts popularity. Where many saw it as a sign of strength, Hammas and Hezbollah see it as weakness. THIS is probably a contributing factor to the reasons for attack. As I have said previously, there is GREAT wrong on both sides, and in war no one wins. Israel use cluster bombs in civilian areas where hezbollah site their rockets. who do you blame here? BOTH! If their rockets are town bound due to lack of transportation/infrastructure, then the decision is a simple one. do we a. mark them as beyond use b. fire them in situ in the knowledge that Israel will hit the town with an air bombardment. You pay your money you take your chance.
Well quoted yo-yo. You are an intelligent person and make well-versed arguments. Unlike those Yankee fascists who want to obliterate everybody who is not white or willing to kiss their backsides. I saw a t-shirt today with a picture of Red Indians on it saying "Americans... fighting terrorism since 1492". There was report done here in the UK about the things that people found most irritating. Not surprised that towards the top of the list came... Americans. Of course there are very many level-headed Yanks, but the unsophisticated arguments of right-wing gung-hoers on this forum are laughable. Their eyes are so blinkered and their hearts are so cold. Nothing moves them, even the lives of innocent children being blown up to pieces in their hundreds.
You describe terrorists who blow up teenagers disco clubs and busses throughout Israel for the past 50 years so well. Though you forgot to mention all their supporters, who go dancing on the streets every time Israeli woman and children are killed in these acts of terror.
Tell your buds to stop hiding behind women, children and the UN. Nah, Azam would never be "moved" by hezbollah doing this. This, after all, is the way it's supposed to be done, right Azam?
yo-yo, Regarding cluster bombs, my guess it that it is yet another "exaggeration", and you simply fell into it. Israel's neighbors are known for that. Here are a few examples: Israel "poisoning" palestinian children Fake funerals The Jenin massacre that wasn't As a rule, if it is not something a western journalist saw first hand, be sceptic about it. By now, you shouldn't believe the kid who cried wolf too many times.
