Want to use affiliate programs but not enough products to market - what to do?

    Hi,

New member here :) I will start off my stay here with a dilemma I have...

I'm developing a site around high performance cars.

The site will have some unique features but one thing I want to do is use affilate programs and advertise those programs to convert visitors to customers.

The problem is, the majority of affiliates selling such items (aftermarket car parts) isn't a lot. Most of the companies sell generic parts but not many for certain models. Other sell certain types of parts (e.g. aftermarket brakes) for all models. There are small shops which work on certain marques (e.g. titan motorsports for Supras etc) but these companies don't offer affiliate schemes, apart from one or two companies I have seen. Not really confidence inspiring and from a business point of view for my site, worrying. If I can't advertise a wide range of products (and product stats play a role in my site) then I can't make the site a commercial success. In this case, I'd have loads of product pages for stats but no link/ad to buying the product.

My only real choice I can think of is to advertise a variety of products (dedicated page per product), have an order form, and the entered details are then inputted into the form on the actual retailer's site (automatically) and then take a certain percentage of the product price out of the buyer's user account. However, why would someone by from my site then? Also, this is very much like a subscription business model and for that, my site would have to be damn good (which I'm confident I have the ability to ensure but this is not easy). If I don't give notice, this would probably be illegal but certainly unethical.

However, I think this is how the site Euroffice works - they sell office supplies on behalf of manufacturers and Euroffice take a small cut, but I really don't think Euroffice's suppliers run affiliate programs (haven't seen them on some of the supplier sites).

What can I do without losing the profit making potential of my site?
