I want to start my own hosting business. Which reseller hosting is best and reliable? Will this biz make profits? Suggestions please!!
1. first of all before starting: invest several thousand us$ in high end network security and hacker security workshops then 2. learn the operating system of your choice INSIDE and outside by heart - I safely assume that having such question you have already many years of admin experience either on a professional level Linux or windows server. after 1. + 2. all else 3. a host if reliable is on duty online 24/7 are you ready to do so for the few $ you get ? how much you get you figure out yourself - just look at the nearly free hosting packages - then multiply by a few dozen / hundred / thousands of customers and look at the problems most vhost customers have HERE in DP forum then think twice if you are ready to cope with the problems OR if you are ready to be better than most existing hosts without being more expensive ...
Hosting is not a joke...thousands of people rely on hosts to provide them with a RELIABLE service... if you don't have the capital to start up decently, and you haven't done a TON of research on getting into the market...do yourself, and everyone else a favor and don't do it... profit?...yes...but not from the start...it took me over a year to actually start making a profit from my private hosting business...and right now I concentrate more on quality for my current customers in order to build up my reliability and word of mouth...so I'm actually not making a profit anymore...but I enjoy doing it... if you are really serious about it...go over to webhostingtalk.com...it's a much better forum to learn the ropes...
Hosting is not an easy business to profit from these days. Make sure you do your research. There are some great web hosting business-oriented forums out there that are filled with information.
Hostgator started off as a reseller and look at it now . Anyways, hosting is a serious business and one you could make nice $$ or be killed in such a large competitive market. The business will make profits, if you keep your costs low, margins high (bear in mind you need to keep competitive) and have great support. Firstly, you need to decide on the nature of your hosting company i.e Are you going to offer proxy hosting? Are you going to allow people to host for free? etc before setting up your hosting company.
Just find a niche like you could provide solutions for high traffic websites that need alot of bandwidth.
