want to know the reason why a website rank so high with little backlinks

the question is on the like the title, and this is the google search page

while other sites which do better SEO havenot such result. Why? Can some one help me find the reason?

How many back link you have , may be because your content

 

well, i use "measurement tools" to search on the google, the site is www.sjdiscounttools.com/measurement-tools.html, and i checked on yahoo, this is the results. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.co...tools.com/measurement-tools.html&bwm=i&bwmo=d, only got 28 inlinks. But some site do better than it, why it rank the third?

 

Your link is not working.

A website without a single backlink can even rank on top for certain keywords if the competition is low.

 

what's wrong with my link, i can open it on my computer.
the link is yahoo backlink results.
As to the keywords competition, i think it is fiercely, the keywords have more than 4 million results. and some non-commercial site like "edu" even lower than this site. That is why i don't understand.

It depends on many things. Quality backlink, Domain backlink, Domain Age, keyword on permalink, keyword competition and so on.

 

It might have good content and high PR back links..

oh, i see, the link is imcomplete. The system had omited some letters with ..., well, the keyword i use is measurement tools, and the site is on the third of the first page.

 

Quality back links and old sites.

 

Why the other site is higher than your own could be down to the age of the domain,the quality of links rather than quantity it will show up higher if they are linked to a few higher PR sites and in its own niche this is far better than 100s of links to other sites in differant niches.

The thing you have to do is take a look at the backlinks to the other site and try and do the same but better then in theory you could go higher up,this is what SEO is all about trying to out do all your competitors.

In theory its easy but in practice is much harder.

 

Simple solution that you might need. some time link which is having google result isn't viewable. my request is, why dont you provide that link as bit.ly (shorten your link and give). I am waiting to see your shorten link

 

There are alot more factors than simpley who has the most links you know?

Domain age
Quality of links
on page factors such as:
good content
good use of headers/alt
loading speed
hosting location
domain name
directory structor and nameing
linking structure

The list goes on and on, you need to cover all aspects, not just get as many links as you can, infact if you have been targeting getting links to much and using shady tactics you may find your site has been penalised even.

 

I know high-quality backlinks which linked with high PR sites will contribute to your own site greatly. However, some of the sites that the backlinks locate don't have what you said-high PR, i was wondering if the backlink-located-sites have longer domain age also do great help?

well, i guess the forum sytem may cause the problem. Because, when i submit the link, the system omited the middle letters of the Url with "..." automatically. I put same link in other category of this forum, it still cannot open.
May i ask you to search "measurement tools" in google, and the third one is the site i questioned.

i think it is not always about how many backlinks you have that matters for google and ranking, but it is about the quality of backlinks that a website receives...

 

Good content basicly comes down to it being unique a good read and useful, with the relevat keywords mentioned. Good example for a Tool store would be to have a blog where you reveiw new products and have posts about new products comming soon. Also further to that I would advise having asection on product pages where people who have previously bought the product can write their own reveiw.

If your struggling to get reveiws a good way to increase it is to make an offer to them along the lines of if you make a small reveiw after making a purchase you can get 5% of your next purchase.

Good use of headers and alt, well make sure all images use alt tag and explain what the image is, as for headers just make sure your header structure is good and your main search terms are used in them really, but this one is a little harder to explain in this message really.

Loading speed get firebug addon for firefox and page speed addon for firefox and it will give you pleanty of areas where you could improve.

Hosting make sure its in the same counrty you are targeting your site for and that they have a good uptime, a site being down for a few hours even half hour now and then is really not good for search engines or visitors. Make sure the server is not already over loaded with loads of sites causing yours to load slowly.

Domain - make sure you pick one with main search term in really and the TLD is for the country you are targeting the site for.

If all these terms are something you dont know about then I would really advise getting a trusted professional in or doing alot more research on different areas of SEO, website userbility and accessability these are all important to have a truley successful website IMO.
