Want to go to Japan

    Has anyone here been to Japan from the US? The reason I ask is because I would really love to visit Japan. I don't really want to see Tokyo so much, as I do the historical areas. I've tried to look around and heard it costs (including plane, food and boarding) are $4000 and was curious as to how much it ended up costing you. I'm trying to prepare, but don't want to run into any surprises.
