Hey guys, I have been a customer of Hostgator's for a few years. I have been having problems with their service as of late. They only allow a certain amount of email connections... long story.

Looking for advice on a new hosting company that I can instantly upload my cpanel backup so the transition would be seamless. Also need an SSL.

    thanks for the help!

Not quite sure what an email connection is, I guess it means that you aren't sending via mandrill or some other 3rd party service.

Have you searched the forum for other discussions on this kind of server move?

Unfortunately before we can recommend anyone, we're going to need the long story. :) Hosts are very reluctant to take on clients who have had potential email abuse problems.

I would recommend you to use services from cddhosting.com. Their uptime is good, servers are powerful and support is helpful. Pricing is more than reasonable.

Would you like your new host to migrate your site free of charge with professional support?

@phaze3131 Hostgator is a good company, and my friend websites are hosted with them. But, their shared servers are slow. How many email connections you are trying to make? (Many hosts transfer the sites to their servers for free but that may not solve your exact problem.)

It will be VERY hard for you to find shared cpanel hosting at same price with more than 500 emails per hour (hostgators limit). But you may pick VPS which not limit you on emails. Many budget VPSs starts at $4 but you will need to migrate to non cpanel control panel.

email connection problems, which then hostgator takes all your sites offline. Has to do with the connection attempts or something, and I have 6 email accounts in thunerbird, a cell phone, tablet, and laptop all which need to be synced.

Hostgator limits the connections to 12 but each email uses 3 connections.

It's confusing, I know, I have spent hours and hours trying to get hostgator to fix this, but they can't.

Ahhhhhh...the ol' connection limits. If you think about it, you do want a host with limits. Just like limited disk space, bandwidth, etc., limited connections help fight abuse on the server. If you have 10,000 email accounts on a shared server, and every one of those is accessed 10 times per hour, you're talking about 100,000 connections to the server per hour, just for email. That can be a big deal.

That said, 12 connections should allow you to check the emails every 5 minutes. The connections should be per IP address, not per device. So assuming at least the phone and tablet are using the same IP, you shouldn't be running into the issues you're having.

Would recommend contacting the individual hosts to ask them what their limits are. They vary greatly.

I advise you to check the hosting plans of Fatcow, you can instantly upload your backup to their server and your site will be pointed to the new server within an hour.
