Want to build a forum

I want to build my own forum. As I am new I know nothing how can I build a forum. what should I do first to build a forum?

SMF is free software, it's very clean and easy to install. Next you need to design it i.e. add a template and a logo. Then you need to decide on what categories and boards you want to have on your forum. After that you need to open up your forum and encourage users.

 

SMF is a great forum software. The only thing I would recommend is to also take a look at MyBB. It is very easy to install and will be a lot easier to maintain later on.

If you want to invest then buy Vbulletin. If you want it for free, then choose MYBB.

I have downloaded SMF 2.0.1 and now I have to upload to host. Its a zip file of 2.5 MB. So I have extracted that file and I got some .php, .sql and folders. Do I have to upload all those files and folders?

I love vBulletin forum software. But it is not affordable to me at this time.. It has more features than other free or commercial forum scripts. However I am currently using phpBB. Try it too. There is a large community to support you at phpBB official web site.
