why on earth would anyone want to read a diary of my day? i have no idea how it works :(
or read anybody else's unless they were a james bond type, or pornstar...

    ...now there is an idea!

woke up, went to work, screwed, went home, ate, played, slept, woke up, went to work ...

maybe if you are blogger and collect stamps, do you read other stamp collector blogs?

The First thing you want to do is check out Word Press.org.
That is the platform that I recommend.
It requires that you have your own domain and hosting, which I also suggest.

You can register a domain for around $10 a year, and many here know of cheap hosting for one blog.

Check out how Word Press operates, and see if it is something that you can handle. There is great community support, and advancements.

If you think that is too much to handle the first time out, then check out wordpress.com (free hosted blogs), and blogger.

Look around at some of the blogs that people have in the forum. It may help you decide which way to go, and how much time you are willing to invest to get it going.

What is your reason for starting a blog ? I suggest letting knowledge, passion or an interest be you guide to the subject matter, and monetization second....unless you a skilled internet marketer, then research based on what is selling, and blog about that. (only if you know how to do it).

What you want to do, and why, will be the biggest determining factors of what platform to use, and free hosting vs. self hosting.

Here is what I would do if I were wanting to test the blogging waters.

    1. Get an account at wordpress.com
    2. Play around with the plugins and themes and make posts. See if you like it.
    3. If after a couple months you are enjoying yourself register a domain name and consider buying hosting and going the self host WordPress route.

This way if you decide you don't like blogging then you haven't put any money out. If you decide you do you have a ton of options.

    Hope this helped.

Also... you don't have to make it personal. In fact you can make it about anything you want. You can post anything of interest that you think other would be interested in... pictures, videos, video games, product reviews, sports... ANYTHING. And you're right. Chances are no one will read a personal blog. So make it about something else. I actually have a writing blog. I was shocked to find that with no advertising whatsoever... I've had over 1200 hits in less than 3 months.

I have a personal blog that friends and family read (mostly so we can keep in touch). Also I have a video game/tech blog. I find that writing about something you enjoy and are passionate about is very easy and fun.

Start with the free blogs in wordpress.com and blogger.com. Start a blog write on the subject you like (not necessarily your personal life). Do the writing for some time. See if you like writing everyday or every alternate day. If you like it then get a paid hosting and a domain name (I will tell you how to get them). It's simple
