Well, not CountryBoy.com but MyName.com. It's currently registered by a chap (same name funnily enough) who has it pointing at a blank web page, so obviously not in productive use at the moment. It's been that way for the last few months at least, so I guess he's not very creative in the web sense. It expires in early Jan 2008. It's a normal sort of name - neither common or uncommon, but there's a few variations that are unregistered (like My-Name.net). I'm thinking of using either Sedo or GoDaddy to acquire it for me. Has anyone got any comments on these brokerage services? What exactly do you get for your money?
Try and accquire it yourself, you'll save yourself fees and it isnt that hard, it's just the offer that needs to be right
Well, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this sort of thing so wouldn't know where to start! I have this guy's contact email through the whois record. I also have an account with 1and1.co.uk to transfer it to. If anyone feels like writing an idiot-proof guide to domain acquisition and transfer it'd be greatly received!
I don't know how much you're prepared to pay but when someone sees a brokerage service asking him for his bid it's logical to assume that the interested buyer has good pockets Generally speaking it's better to do a manual approach Start by sending him an email and inform us for the 2nd step to tell you our opinion
Approach the seller first... act professional.. yet not TOO professional (or else he'll think you have $$ and probably ask for more $$). You can give the college student story
I would send an email to the seller directly, rather then using some company like Sedo, as if they see it, they'd most likely jack up the prices.
This thread is great as i'd like to try and obtain a domain also that i used to own but due to a mix up I lost it...it's my family surname. It belongs to a web marketing company so it may be difficult to get but i've searched their website and i'm not sure why they have the domain?
sorry meant to ask...should I be careful of disclosing my full name in my approach as it kind of gives the game away as to why I want the domain?
Why bother trying to get an answer to that question? Just try to obtain the domain name. CountryBoy, check with the registrar in question what they'll do to an expired domain name if it's not renewed on time.
I seen countryboy and all I could think of was a country boy special, it's the breakfast at a restaurant down the road, eggs, hash browns, toast... so thanks a lot, now I'm hungry! brb
I'll second that vote to not bother using a service to buy a domain name. I tried one once for a domain name that was just parked and had been for years. I got a response back saying they would part with it for $50k. That's not a typo. They wanted FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for it. LOL. Needless to say I didn't purchase the domain name. But I was out the $70 it cost me to use the service. Complete waste!
That's a great question - anyone got an answer? If I say 'Hey CountryBoy, I'd like to buy your domain name because I too am called CountryBoy' is he going to charge a premium? I suppose I'll have to give him my real details to amend the whois.
Waiting to know what others think about this. Don't you think he would put the price up if he gets to know the buyer desperately wants it? A fool proof guide on domain acquisition can really make some money here A market right here in DP amongst you. Go for it 'someone', go for it All success, G
