I was thinking that too, something should really serve a purpose to be considered worth adding, otherwise its just gimmicky.
revver video widget wordpress ready.. its good and have ad sharing as well. i found it two days back and using it at flyplove.com forum (playlist widget) and recoveryandforensic.net blog (full featured widget for wp) i can say it is very useful share and earn
definitely. a lot of blogs I come across are on widget overload. Whats the point in displaying some of these widgets that say you are ranking 145# on a certain site
Look at mine - the only "extra" I added is the Amazon widget because it fits my theme. I like to keep things simple, because the average person (which are the ones visiting your site) don't care about all the wizardry. They just want content and an easily navigational site.
The only widgets I use, are one that matter for readership and making money. Video widget, because videos are important to my content. "Join my mailing list", and Amazon product widgets. Everything else is an affiliate link, or banners for my own sites. No sense in using widgets that will not either make you money, or help to retain readership. Real Estate on you blog is valuable and should not be wasted on "trinkets". JMO
