Because PR updates every blue moon and this is a recent method. Check my Yahoo backlinks. The 60.000 of them. I have been blogging since mid Feb yet I already rank higher than a bunch of seo schools and companies that have hundreds of employers and over 10 years of experience. Anyhow... I understand you concerns so I suggest you wait 4 months and look how well everyone else does, if you are that worried.

No, I will be working in a team however you won't need to do any link building yourself. Its always good to optimise your pages however it is not going to effect your PR in any way.
