Hi, I need help on how to better monetize a wallpaper site I have... I would rather not post the site here, but would just like suggestions on the best ways to monetize this type of site... I get around 10,000-12,000 uniques per month, all from search engines. My main source of traffic is from Google Images... I have ads on all of the wallpaper pages, and I earn about .50 cents - 1.00 daily, it fluctuates... Does anyone have any ideas on how to better monetize this? I have tried CPALead, with no success, and I am now just focusing on adsense. Thanks!
Congratulations on that milestone of 10k daily. I would recommend an affiliate that sells vintage posters. Chances are people looking for wallpapers appreciate quality artwork / design. I can see how if I was looking for a video game wallpaper, and saw a badass Pacman poster, it could trigger a want to buy stimuli ;p. If it's boat wallpaper, sell boat posters. If the posters don't work out, try clothes. If those don't work out try collectibles such as old figurines. If those don't work out try media products like dvds. If all else fails sell ringtones . Would help of course to know the niche and the layout of the site....if it's an upbeat template, country, anime, games, etc.
Personal ques... do u post original pics/postures/wallpapers or (sometimes also) copy/paste materials from other sites etc.
Mostly there are collections of wallpaper packs, that I have acquired. Though, I would say approximently, 85% of them I have re-named, to give them original names, for better SEO purposes... For example, rather than having BritneyWallpaper1, I have named it, Britney-Spears-Sexy-Boobs-Wallpaper... etc... Which I know has helped my traffic come tremendously!
read it again. traffic from google images is not that good. i don't have any sites that get traffic from google images, but i'm a surfer of google images,so i know. also having a few hundred visitors a day is not much.you can't expect a lot of money on that type of site with that many visitors.
Really, I had no idea that Google Images traffic wasn't that good... I thought it was my site ;-) LOL! Darn, well that beats that idea
Google Images Traffic is good if u have Tags,Category and short description of each and every image... and also avoid using porn titles and abusive words in description.... or Google will categorise ur images as porno and results will not apprear in image search (Will appear only if smbdy enable "Do not filter my search results", which is always disable by default)...
Earning about .50 cents - 1.00 daily from 10,000-12,000 UV per month is quite poor performance. I think the root cause might come from Google Images Traffic. It seems that your site fail to arouse traffic to click ads, which illustrate that those traffic is not those you want. Since you can not change your niche, you'd better drive quality traffic. I think that is something you need to work hard on.
If you want to convert people that are coming from google images you need to break out of their frame. Most people go to google images, click an image they like, never look at the page, and click see full size image. They never even see your ads no less are interested enough to view them. If you look up "break out of frames script google" you can find a ton of people talking about how to do it. Also for a site like that I probably wouldn't even use something like contextual advertising. You should really look into cpm ads.
@wallarookiller -- Thanks for your suggestions, I will definitely look into this... Who offers CPM advertising?
You have to first understand the demographic of your visitors. I'm sure the majority of those are Teenages/Kids who are looking for wallpapers for their social networks, etc. Try going with image ads instead; they tend to pay better and have a better CTR.
There are a million wallpaper sites already. Do you own rights to the images? Did you just take them from other sites. Why do people expect to make money from the work of others. And why would you expect to make money from people who are just looking for free pictures. If you want to make money then you have to create value. And Wallpaper sites do not create value.
@internetmarketingiq -- Thanks for your post. Unfortunately, when I created this site, I was clueless to the fact that wallpaper sites don't make that much money... I have been sitting on this site for several months now, and seeing minimal earnings, so I am just trying to get the help and advice from fellow DPers on how I can improve the site. Right now, I am in a bad position as far as income is considered for my girlfriend and I... She is working very less hours than originally anticipated so its taking a hurting on us... This is why I am trying to learn more ideas to maximize my revenue. Thank you for all your suggestions guys, they are truly valued. Please keep them coming!
