Wal-mart put in a bank application earlier this year, but pulled it out because of the controversy involved. A few days ago Wal-Mart put their application in again and is now sticking to their guns. What is your thought on Wal-Mart having a bank in its stores? I cannot stand for Wal-Mart and don't even shop there anymore. Their mission statement was to sell American-made profits, but as the times changed they changed their ideals to profit only. They sell miniature American flags and signs that say "Go Troops" neither of which are made in America. Everything I buy, I look on the label and try to fill my cart with things made in American (not just distributed by some American company in New Jersey. Things MADE in America! Even when buying a car make sure it is made in America, not just if it's an American car, that means nothing. GM has plants in Mexico! You can buy a Toyota and still support American ideals. There is a Toyota plant right in Indiana, same with Honda!!! But back on subject, I object to banking with Wal-Mart wakeupwalmart.com can give more information.
I say why not? I don't care where the products I buy are made, long as I can use them and they won't harm me in an unexpected way. Only thing I don't like about Wal-Mart is the stores I've been to are too crowded and it's hard to move around, especially in the food section. The aisles are so narrow, and there is usually someone in the middle of them, so it's hard to get around.
why? anyone can open a bank as long as you apply for the license or whatever and can back up your funds with assets to customers don't lose their money. what's the big deal? private business doing what private businesses do. walmart has lots of reasonings for opening a bank; one of which is to have a little control over the credit card fees that visa/mc charge it.
I just think for their lack of social responsibility. I mean, yeah sure a lot of banks have the same problem... but how about a company who is known for this even before they put in a bank application.
Guys, WalMart has been wanting to do this for a very long time. The idea of the bank really isn't to serve the public, the idea is to be able to process credit card orders internally rather than paying a bank a fee each time its used. Target already has its own bank, many retailers do, but WalMart has been denied everytime.
I object to banking, period. Not like I care if everybody else does, but the government provides punishment for it - taxes, inflation, and other things. I prefer to stay away from this stuff Chinamart might go out of business soon enough, their business model won't work when dollar collapses. They've been raising prices recently
good for wal-mart....they employ more people in the US than any other company I can think of, and they pay more than most other retailers...such as Barnes and Nobles, Starbucks, Books a Million, etc...it seems that we don't complain about these "luxury" companies, but yet we seem to complain most about wal mart. I think the liberals are still mad because Wal Mart is anti-union (which is a GOOD THING!!!)...good for them opening a bank, more power to them...maybe then we can get rid of these small time banks that pop-up and seem to only ruining people's lives rather than giving them interest or options with their money (never have figured out why people use those)....furthermore, Wal-Mart already cashes a ton of paychecks every week for people that don't use banks. Why not give the people an option that they are comfortable with and will probably use?
It is going to be the biggest bank. or make the big banks go nuts. they have the stores and can open a counter in all the branches and can really serve well. May make their employees have an account with them. -- may call it easy for direct deposite etc. Like to see how it goes.
