Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is shutting down the system that creates movie recommendations on its shopping Web site after it linked a "Planet of the Apes" DVD to films about famous black Americans, including Martin Luther King Jr. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060106/ap_on_bi_ge/wal_mart_web_site
Yeah, I just read that on Prison Planet.tv. I swear, bad news travels fast on the net. Walmart just seems to think they can do anything. You should have read my thread yesterday about Microsoft helping the Chinese government shut down a student's blog. These big corporations are a joke.
Why blame the corporation? This would be a function of IT within the company. they made a mistake, provided a solution. No harm, no foul. I did laugh my ass off when I heard in on talk radio though.
Sometimes it would be best if technology was just left out of the loop. What an embarassment for Walmart....sure somebody will try to sue over this.
Didn't some weather man a few years ago refer to MLK as "Martin Luther Coon"? <edit> found it: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2005/Jan-17-Mon-2005/news/25678882.html
LOL...the ebay ads were pretty funny...that's what happen when everything is done lived. Walmart is still a good place to shop.
That reminds of the time Microsoft got sued for returning a picture of a black family at a child's playground when somebody searched for "monkey" on Office clip art. Turned out the kids were playing on "monkey bars" in the picture. Technology can be offensive sometimes.
