hey, I've just set up a website and I am creating backlinks for it. I've read somewhere to wait before "enough" traffic to sign up with adsense. Is this true and Why?
Traffic doesn't matter when signing up for adsense, it soley depends on the quality/quantity of your site's content.
I only suggest you don't make the website look spammy. The main concern people have when making this suggestion is that you don't scare off traffic by bombarding them with Adsense ads.
As long as you get your adsense account approved you should have no problem. Just make sure you look over the TOS so you dont get it pulled or worse lose your money.
I would say that generally, it is true. Here's why: folks get turned off by ads. If they can't find their way around the ads to get to useful content, they'll never come back. True, adding the ads later on may irk some of your users, but they are already regularly visiting your site for good reason, so it is not likely to create substantial backlash. Internet users don't like it when Webmasters look greedy. So I would hold off on the ads until you have many regular visitors. Besides, adding them now won't pay you very much anyway.
Ads are so common these days in one form or another, I don't see a real need to abstain from adding adsense to your pages. However, there is a school of thought that delaying it will allow you to get links to the site more easily because people are more likely to link to a site without any ads.
thanks for the input everyone! No, I haven't gotten it accepted yet... but my website is up and I do try to create good, valuable content. How long does it take after applying for adsense approval?
Actually, I don't agree with that. When you're building a new site and you're trying to exchange links, it's not always a good idea to show a prospective link trader that your site is full of ads. Or worst, if you have more ads than you do content. I find that people are generally more willing to trade links with you if they don't think all you're ONLY in this for is a buck. There are a lot of fan-based sites out there with high PR that don't have ads at all. Yes, they still exist.
QFT. I think it is a good idea to get your site some traffic first. Then you may even get a better idea about which monetization options are best for your site.
