a blog is basically an abbreviation of "web log" take it as the new age diary. a blog can either be for personal use or commercial use. For example, a technology site that talks about all the latest gizmo/tech buzz. If you're looking to start a blog, my personal fav would be Wordpress. Its easy to use, customisable, plenty of useful plugins, and you can even turn it into a cms. Hope that helps.
blog = web log you can put any log of your daily activities, it's like online diary, so that you can share it with others. You can write just about almost anything here, give tips and trick, focus on specific topic, eg: share your recipes, tips on home decorating, tell others about your life, write stories to share, etc You can also monetize your blog, which mean you can put ads in your blog, if your visitors are high, you have high chance for them to look at your ads and be interested to buy/click the ads which you can gain revenue from.
but what can be a difference between a wordpress blog and a site made with mambo or joomla? or is it cooler to say "i have a blog" than saying "i have a site"? or a portal? or whatever? i used to think blogs were meant to be like personal diaries, but i don't see that now, a blog can be like any other site, or what EXACTLY defines what is a blog? what is the difference?
It is a new breed of website where people can act as a media. I read this once in a blog saying "If you can't write it, blog it".
A blog is defined as a site that displays content or posts in a chronological order based on the date of the content. Also called web-log.
A little bit OT: I checked CMS up at wikipedia, and it seemed like CMS is the system that most blogs uses to publish things. Could you explain what the difference between CMS(Content Management System) and a Weblog is?
A blog is a basic CMS with one difference : display articles in reverse chronology with most recent articles situated at the top. It doesnt matter what category it is... CMSes display articles in static manner, not affected by date of posting. Nowadays the top blogs can be turned into CMS...think textpattern, movable type and expression engine. Wordpress also, except its not so straightforward...but I'm hoping the developers are moving Wordpress development in that direction...now that would be great.
You can make wordpress into a CMS quite easy, I do it alot. Just a few template changes and it looks great. Blogs are the way to go, for now.
Ok, is it possible to make a information webpage, with related article functions etc. with WordPress?
