    Hi all,

Does it greatly help your site in search rankings if you have a passed status on this markup html scan? I have a few sites, some have 600 errors, 100 errors, etc...would this kill my search engine ranking in google?

    Link: http://validator.w3.org

    Thanks

No, ifa search engine spider can crow your pages everything is fine. Submit your websites to Google Webmaster Tool an it will tell you if the Google bot is having some problems while indexing your website.

Personally I prefer to make all of my pages valid html. It ensures that all of my visitors can properly access my website as it is supposed to look.

It does not help search engine rankings though. In some cases you might have a more severe error that prevents the search engine spiders from crawling your website.

It would simply take up far too much resources for Google to check the html validity of each website in its index.

An SEO book I read said YES it does affect rankings; when i changed to using submenu software that didn't at that stage conform to W3C it made no difference to my sites.

First, there is no benchmark information on this topic. Period.

But, your site should pass this for marketing reasons only. Good design means good designers and that means the client will get a good design.

We use it against our competitors to show future clients how poor their design is. It works every time.

But, look at the top 10 sites on Google for any keyword you choose. The site will not pass W3C.
