In another forum Johneva suggested that making sure my page is W3C compliant will help with my SEO success. I was wondering what the rest of you though and if it is true why? Thanks and does this apply to any website?
Well if the bots can traverse your site easier, don't you think it would help I say yes, try to get all your sites w3c compliant.
i just finished watching an seo video and it talked about the importantce of w3c compliant (tho the video is old), so i would say yes.
Honestly I don't think that W3C compliant code matters at all with SEO.. I mean look at google, ebay, amazon, newegg, etc... they dont use w3c compliant code and look how high they rank in the serps. agree with you, i m sure that it wont help any more to get good rank in search engine. your site should be crawl easily thats it.

When I re-vamped my main site I made it W3C compliant, within about a week of publishing the site my SERP's jumped up a few places for all my keywords. Obviously there could be other factors that affected it, such as a new link structure etc, but I would say it definitely helped, not significantly but every little helps!
I figure the better the compliance, the better your site will look to everyone and everybot. Sure the biggies (goog, amazon, etc...) have errors, but THEY ARE THE BIGGIES. If you're running a small site you might as well do everything you can, even if it only helps a little, to get it seen. I've been working on validating a few of my sites as of late in hopes that it helps
Why would a search engine care if your markup validates or not? You should validate your code if possible, it's good for visitors, but search engines couldn't care less. Matt cutts said google currently don't have a signal for validated code, let alone use it as a factor in their algo in one of his videos.
Your first mistake would be listening to Matt Cutts, run a spider simulator on a page with 80 w3c errors on it and see how much it reads. otherwise, you could simply hide content in the code and the spider would find it relevant.
I already explained why its a good idea If you don't want to clean your code up, that's fine. I'm still going to try and keep at least the main pages error free.. cheers
It would be a mistake to listen to a google employee? Spiders don't see errors. They don't render pages. They see as many errors as you see when you open the page in a text editor, Which is none.
W3C compliance is important for the visitors browsers to view your pages correctly. So if your page is W3C compliant you are assured that it is clearly visible to every one. Hence happy visitor >> Good traffic and more links >> better rankings. It helps indirectly for SEO but it do at least to some extent.
