    these vultures shouldn't be ganging up on already helpless countries. then again, thats why they're shameless vultures in the first place.

    That seems like the consensus. The problem is that the governments, which agreed to cancel the debt, turned around and sold the debt to private interests. So they could say, "Hey we are forgiving Third-World debt." while they sold it off to be collected. Of course they sold the debt cheap, and you have to wonder why, i.e., what genre of bribery was involved. So essentailly, it's even more sinister than it superficially appears. Not to mention how the "leaders" of some countries squanderd the loan money in the first place.
