Which do you think is easier for the average person to remember...One has a - in it and the other is a .org

    keyword-forum.com or
    keywordforum.org

For me the .org version would be easier to remember as dashes are harder to deal with. It's not in my system to type these when I type in a domain name. If I know however the domain name is keywordforum.org it works better for me as I remember the whole thing including the extension.

    That's just me though:)

I would say .org is a little easier to remember but the dash .com might do a little better in the serps. Buy both.

agree with .org , dashes are not easy to type

IHMO Again it depends, is your site oriented towards shopping, sales or marketing than the .com is a must

another vote for .org as people don't know if the name should be hifenated and where the hifen should be.

The only problem with .org is that there are some special rules governing .org domains (eg: you can't have a private registration).

The .org is historically non-comercial but with the dwindling supply of .com peolpe are starting to break that soft-rule

Sorry I can't post a link to the ican.org site yet but here is the extract
The .biz domain, operated by NeuLevel, Inc., is restricted to businesses.
The .com domain, operated by VeriSign Global Registry Services, is a generic top-level domain originally intended for commercial businesses around the world.
The .info domain, operated by Afilias Limited, is an unrestricted domain for websites containing information about you, your organization, your products or any other information you'd like to make available to a global audience.
The .name domain, operated by Global Name Registry, is reserved for individuals.
The .net domain, operated by VeriSign Global Registry Services, is a generic top-level domain used by many types of organizations and individuals globally; it was historically intended for and is still commonly used by Internet service providers.
The .org domain, operated by Public Interest Registry, is unrestricted, but was intended to serve the noncommercial community.
The .pro domain, operated by RegistryPro, is restricted to certified professionals and related entities.

    Hey Davey,

Seems I may be a lone dissenting voice here!

This is just from personal experience, but I've had quite a few occasions where I've told people .org addresses, and they've got back to me saying it doesn't work, only for me to find out they've been typing .com and .co.uk. I've even had this when I've written the address down for them!

I have had this with hyphens too, but not as much.

Not at all scientific, I know, but from my experience people have more trouble going out the .com/.co.uk box than they do incorporating hyphens.

    Mike.
