Right now im on vps costing me 100$ with 1gb memory connected to two 2 ghz cores
would it be better to move to a dedicated with 1gb memory and dual p3 or xp2400 with the same price tag?

A dedicated server is always better then a VPS. That is why it costs more and it has better specifications. You may probably make your earning out of it if you can manage to get people to buy VPS's out of you.

Dedicated server is not always as good as avps. In your example, P3 and xp2400 are pretty old hardware, which makes me believe the rest of the server will also be pretty old. The cache on P3 and xp2400 are pretty small cache compared to xeon.

Seconds, what type of drives is on your vps ? If you have some sort of raid on your vps, will you have the same protection of data on your dedi server ?

If you dedi server only has one harddrive,, and judging by the processor type, the drive may be old, which expose you to the disk failure potential. Again, if the drive is a bit older, it will probably have a smaller tranfer rate then on your vps server. Not coutning way less i/o.

I would say move to the dedicated box. On a dedicated you won't be sharing the server resources with any others sites unless you choose to add the additional sites.

In your VPS 2 ghz cores are shared with all VPS on that server, a dedicated server is better then a VPS because you don't have to share resource with other :D

    $100 for a VPS? hah.

Spend an extra $150 and get yourself a good box, im sure someone in the dedicated server section ( if there is one ) can help out.

Remember that in a dedicated you aren't battling for a vary narrow bottleneck: the hard drive. If you have a fellow member in a VPS hitting the hard drive all the time everyone will suffer, regardless what the other limits are.

I would say to go with the dedicated - There are some pretty good deals on dedicated if you check out the offers section of webhostingtalk.com

Depending on what kind of sites your running, I would get at least 2 gigs of memory. If you going to go with a dedicated server, go ahead and do it right, and that does not mean to get off as cheap as you can.

When I finally decided to go with a dedicated server, I was running 3 vbulletin forums and 4 wordpress sites. The VPS - $90 a month for 1 gig of ramm - was overloaded. My sites were losing traffic because the pages were taking so long to load. When I upgraded to a dedicated, my bounce rate went down and my overall traffic went up.

The only real difference between a VPS with 1 gig of memory and a dedicated with 1 gig is the processor. You will notice an improvement in load times. But if your going to upgrade your processor to a dedicated box, why not go ahead and upgrade the memory at the same time? If you dont, you will be looking for a memory upgrade after the traffic goes up.

Go dedicated, even a cheap one. The difference is bigger then you think.
