VPS question

I run a file hosting site that is around a month old on a VPS. It's been crashing lately whenever it gets to 500mb ram used even though it has over 700mb. Could the script be using that even if there are no users on? and is this the normal amount for a file hosting site?

Is it 512MB guaranteed ram or burstable ram? If it is burstable ram that means it is not necessarily dedicated to your VPS and could be causing the problem. You shouldnt be using 500MB of RAM with no visitors anyway, maybe you should have an optimization and security audit done on the vps.

Is it a managed vps, have you had any work done on it?

With no users it will be using 100-200mb. I don't know what you mean by managed. I had the script installed and that's about it, i have root access but i haven't changed anything.

At the moment I'm spending $37/month on a site that's making $2/month so I need to atleast get it stable enough to try and get traffic.

By managed, I mean does your provider take care of everything such as maintenance and security of your VPS, or do you have to?

To my knowledge my host doesn't do anything to it.
