I am starting a new vid site and would like to find the best hosting deal I can find. Any suggestions? I have also read that its probably cheaper and better to use a vps. Other say dedicated is the best .
What is best in your minds and experience??

Dedicated is the best but if your not unified then dont buy unmannaged dedicated nor vps.

    Quality : Dedicated
    Cheap Quality : VPS

I would say start with a VPS, and if needed, upgrade to dedicated later.

Agreed with Honey. You dont want to dump a bunch of money into something that may not make it back.

How much does it cost to buy your own (Dell?) Linux server, and then use co-locating and management deals for low monthy cost?

-I'm 99% sure you can get quality (remote) server management for $29 per month (I think Platinum Server Management was mentioned as being really good, someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)).

-Then, your only real costs are the initial hardware expense, and the best deal you can find on co-location.

If your pretty confident your site will get busy, this might avoid the hassles of moving away from VPS and the cost of monthly dedicated server rental.

That's a good idea to colocate gemini181, but personally I prefer to stay out of all trouble, and let the hosting company take care of everything including any hardware failures.

    Thanks :)
I'm not ready yet, but someday I might try co-location.

without a doubt, it is obvious that dedicated is better than vps. however, if you only require vps, why go for dedicated? ;)

thanks. Yes VPS I figured is the way to go to start. Some pretty good deals on larger terra byte hosting via vps.

I personally would not go that route anytime soon. I dont want the hassle to deal with stuff others are pros at. I have SO MUCH on my plate now with tons of site ideas and domain searching to register that adding something like a server now would be counter productive in my business and no doubt many others. No time simply.

    Thanks for info folks
