Ok I got a lot of trouble with my shared hosting (using too much CPU) and I just read a few good thing about VPS hosting. Will I get my VPS account suspended if my websites are using too much CPU? I think no because only my website will be hosted there but I just want to make sure. I am planning to get a VPS hosting soon
VPS hosts have caps set on CPU that users can't go past. No need to worry about it. I have seen a couple of hosts that put limits on disk IO, but they're something a properly operating site won't go past.
A VPS will not suspend your VPS in most cases but they do have the facility to limit your resources more. This is especially true where CPU and I/O are fair share policies. That means use as you please but you start affecting the node they'll start limiting you more thoroughly. Something else to keep in mind with a VPS is you have your site CPU usage but now you also have the overhead of simply running certain services. So memory to run Apache, MySQL ect. CPU time to process stats and do backups or whatever other tasks you might be doing not exactly related to your sites directly.
Can anybody please tell me what is VPS hosting Shared hosting Dedicated hosting etc Where should I host my personal blog. Should I be bothered about these facts if I only have 3000 visits per month?
With only 3000 visits per month you should stick with shared web hosting which I assume you're on right now. You can make sure you're on shared hosting for a long time making sure you're not running any plugins that have poor performance. Also if you're running wordpress consider running wp-super-cache which reduces CPU usage on wordpress based blogs quite substantially.
You can stick to shared hosting for blog with 3000 visits/month. In two words: - shared one: you share resources with other websites on one physical server; - VPS (virtual private server): you also share resources of one physical server with others, but you have less strict limits and your own "private space", so you can install programs, etc - dedicated hosting: there is a server, which hosting your website/websites ONLY. Don't need to worry about using too much resources, all server's capacity is yours. Pretty expensive option.
Yea A VPS Hosting Account Wont get suspended for limits usage as the limits are set and its not possible to pass it
vps hosting is good if your site has massive views i mean a lot of views or if you have a proxy/media sharing site. other wise shared hosting is the choice
Thanks a lot for all the helping hands. I've decided to host with hostgator [baby plan-unlimited space, bandwidth, domains]. Is this a shared one or VPS? Am I permitted to install any software or permitted to host a social network like blog there.... Isn't it really possible for me to host around 10 wordpress blogs at least there...? I would really appreciate if you get time to answer......... Solace Rose
That is a shared hosting. You can't install a software on a shared hosting, but you're able to host multiples Wordpress blog on that hosting. I'm using the same Hostgator plan as yours. - Dynashox -
If you are choosing a shared hosting package, you won't have administrator access to the server and hence it won't be possible for you to install any applications on the server. However, it is possible to host multiple Wordpress blogs on the shared hosting packages and hence you shouldn't face any problems with the same
The only thing you might want to think about is the Bandwidth, try to find a VPS that has either large bandwidth or unlimited.
I have seen in the past a VPS hosted website (I don't remember the provider) that has been warned for the high CPU usage. Anyway, if your high CPU usage is due to improper MySQL usage (your DB is not optimized - a very common situation) you may try to optimize your databases first, otherwise even VPS may NOT be a solution.
