I think this guy should be banned from the network. I love my little online business and I spend MOST of my time trying to stay afloat while the biggies like Google put in tons of roadblocks to stop Internet spamming, causing everyone else to get caught up in the fray. Abuses are abuses, and they spoil great tools like the Ad Network Coop for everyone else.

I think it was more exploiting than finding. he didn't find amything for us; he found a bug and used it for his own gain.

He was let back in after a month. I had a hard time banning someone permanently for something that I probably would have tried to exploit myself if given the opportunity.

Also had to give him some credit for making a donation towards the server (which was not asked of him and was not stipulated on being allowed back in).

Not to be a bastard, but why bother with the vote, since the response was overwhelmingly in favor of not letting him back in?

Much of the votes changed (at least that was the impression I got) as time went on.

Fair enough. Not questioning your decision, just curious.

I can put it up for a "final" vote if everyone wants. This vote was a bit pointless IMO because lots of info came out after the fact, and also didn't leave an option to let them back in with a penalty (that idea was after the vote was setup as well). Generally (of course not everyone) it seemed to me that people ended up being in favor of letting them back in with a penalty, rather than a simple Yes/No vote.

What is done is done. No point in dragging this out anymore. As long as he knows that if he pulls any more shit, we'll lynch him ;)

    Shawn,

I say let him back in... Come on think about it....

One, the person helped you discover a bug in your system. That right there alone is invaluable.

Two- Were there any rules against him doing this at the time? I did not hear any mention that he broke any rules at all. If the rules weren't there to begin with to prevent him from doing this how can you punish him for something he was never told he could not do?

Three- Ingenius that the guy actually figured that out over everyone else in the network. Did he cheat... yes but I am willing to bet that there are 500 people in this network that when they read that went ... wow, I wish I would have thought of that even though they won't admit it.

Why wouldn't you let him back in. He tried something that apparently was not against the rules at the time... got caught.... was smart enough to even know to attempt it. If anything this is the type of person that will help you find all of the loopholes in a system like this.

Let him back Shawn... even against the overwhelming polls.

I kind of agree with ProductivePC, even if initially i've voted in No. Also, were his ads on quality websites? If so would be increased value for the coop.

    No

No matter the excuse once a cheater always a cheater. No offiense bud, but the co-op is a network built on trust. You've breeched this trust, your company has, or another member from your company, and as such, you, your partner and your company are not deserving of another opportunity with the existing sites or future sites ever.

In business, trust is one of the most important components of working together with partners.

I say don't just ban the domains and the user, ban the IP address as well.

    Cheers

They're probably back in by now...but if not, don't. Too sneaky and underhanded. There are other ways of notifying someone of holes in a system other than exploiting them, which is what they did. These are the black hats we need to look out for.
