I'm pretty sure that I grew up saying "Camcorder" but somewhere along the years I started saying "Video Camera". The other day a friend of mine called it a "Camcorder" and I was like, "oh yeah.. I forgot about that word".

So I've been wondering which is more appropriate or if they actually mean different things to different people?

Google results for each are as follows:

    Camcorder = 73,600,000
Define Camcorder: The combination of a camera and a video recorder in one device. It permits easy and rapid simultaneous photography and recording.

    Video Camera = 263,000
Define Video Camera: Camera capable of acquiring and delivering to a recording device full-motion video. Converts the moving image into a series of horizontal lines ...

So which term do you use?

So-Far it seems that almost everyone says video camera allthough according to Google, Camcorder is the obvious winner..

Maybe Google and the Web just havn't caught up to the newer term yet?

The word camcorder to me conjures visions of old vhs cameras.. the ones that took a full sized vhs tape and you needed arms like Grim to carry it around... :D

LOL, I guess it seems that the word "Camcorder" is a dyeing thing of the past.. But why then are there sooooooo many more Google results for that term, rather the term Video Camera?

Is it just because Google is listing some really old sites or is it that the term "video camera" is fairly new?

To be honest, up untill about 7 years ago I always called it a camcorder but then, somehow for some reason, started calling it a Video Camera.

Maybe it has something to do with Cell phones, and digital cameras that can do both pic's and video.. Aha ha.. I think that is it! what'cha think?

It's strange that most of the people here say "video camera" yet "camcorder" obviously dominates the web..

    I wonder why?

I wonder if the people who say camcorder are older than the people who say video camera?

Just a guess but I would say that perhaps:
    10 - 24 says video camera
    25 - 40 maybe says both
    40 + says camcorder

I am 27 and used to say "camcorder" but I now say "video camera".
