Just wanted to let you know Max, unless the thread is moved, the only replies in that thread will be from Metas and Catmods (regular editors and editalls are unable to post in the Becoming an Editor part of the forum).

Yes, I am sure. I don't have the power to turn off the signs, so I can't answer why they are on there. It seems like all of those categories would not be good for new editors.

Pardon? If a non-editor can post a question, an editor or editall can post a reply. Or is this another piece of obsessive RZ censorship? Why on earth can't non-metas comment on becoming an editor questions, points and issues? Is this an account restriction or some kind of background rule?

I found loads not suitable for new editors. Again, if what you say is supposed to be the system, it clearly does not work. It does not work when candidates are rejected for a category because it is too large either. I always understood, and have seen RZ answers to the effect, that the message was intended for new editors and newbie existing editors and that is why it appears as a link. Maybe someone needs to tell meta editors about this system.

brizzie/oneeye for sometime after you left, the Becoming Editor Section have been declared Off Limits to the Regular Editors. Only Metas and Admins are only the ones who can post there regarding the matter. Sad but true.

Jesus H. Christ! This is not rocket science, folks. Well, not to anyone outside of DMOZ anyway.

I find I keep asking myself, "Are these people really that ignorant and ill-informed? or are they being intentionally obstructionist?"...

Actually, I think max's suggestion was well received, windharp said he has an idea of how it might be done and is taking the suggestion internally. Internally he can discuss his idea of how it might be done and get more help from technical minded editors. Windharp is very reliable, he wouldn't have said it if he didn't mean it. ;)

As far as the first part of your comment, I'd have to say yes, a lot of us really are that ignorant and ill-informed about the technical side of how this stuff works. In fact, if we had a mozzie award for most technically ignorant I'd throw my hat in for that one, but have a feeling competition would be tough. :D

I can't believe that (or maybe I can). And lesser mortals let them get away with that? And the other metas let them get away with that? I am truly astonished - all editors have experience to share. What happened to all editors are equal but some have different rights according to their skills and abilities. Ah well.

The same thing that happened in Animal farm when the pig said; all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. The pigs have taken over the farm. ;)
