Here is a list of current congressional corruption cases in various stages of investigation/prosecution:

Pleaded guilty• Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio
    • Former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif.
Denying wrongdoing• Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa.
    • Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla.
    • Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz.
    • Rep. William Jefferson, D-La.
    • Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas
    • Rep. Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va.
    • Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont.
    • Rep. John Doolittle, R-Calif.
    • Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif.

The attorney general has stated that the Justice Department generally downplays political corruption charges during election times so as not to unduly impact voters.

So it appears there is an unusually large number of legislators that are being pursued for a variety of inappropriate actions.

Any comments or suggestions on how to change the "character" and nature of political office?
