I wanted to know how many of you have Voip(Voice Over Internet Protocol)? If you have It, do you find the Service to be good & the overall sound quality of the phone service to be good? I also wanted to know how is it Legal for VOIP companies to use Cable Co. very own lines? I have BrightHouse networks. But I use Vonage as my phone provider. I had a BrightHouse tech stop by recently to give me a new modem & he told me that they had VOIP. I told him that Vonage was about $15 Cheaper then BrightHouse's VOIP I have had Vonage for about 4 months now & I must say that I'm happy with the service & quality of the sound. How many of you have Vonage & if you do have them are you satisfied with there service. Legends
We have had Vonage for about a year no & extremely happy with them. We have probably paid for six months of service since we have referred three people over to them as well. We were very happy when we moved from California to Colorado and we were abe to keep our Los Angeles number actually for family to call at no charge
I also use Vonage. Every so often, there is a lag, but it always seems to do with my internet connection. There are good things at getting everything from one company but sometimes that can cause a lot of problems. The cable company offers VOIP but I rather stay with Vonage
Having worked with and read up on Voip technology I know there are so many things that can disgrade the call quality that I'm surprised it ever works. I also know that in most cases it does work nicely. Lags almost always has to do with your internet connection as do temporary outages (where one or both parts of the call can't hear the other for a few seconds). If you have a good quality fast internet connection you should have no problem with any Voip service. Being from sweden I can't give you any advice on what service to use
I use Vonage and I am very pleased. All of my calls are from Thailand to Chicago which is pretty much as far as you can get with a call and the lag is never a problem. I love the fact that I can travel the world and still keep my Chicago phone number. Nothing like sitting on an island and still being in touch..
I've been using VOIP since mid-2004 and now couldn't live without it. I can take calls at whichever office I happen to be at, transfer calls between offices, all for no cost and with no hassle.
We've been using Vonage for about a year now, with almost no problems. Occasionally one of the kids will complain that it is "echoey", that's about it. The best part, and yet one of the least discussed parts about Vonage is the heavy uptake by expats, IMHO. My father-in-law lives in Brazil, and yet has a local number in the US. That means our cost to call him went from $1.50/min to nothing. There is no perceptable difference in calling him as opposed to calling a neighbor, despite the distance. When I was in San Miguel Mexico this fall, I noticed that many/most local expats used the (superior to and cheaper than) Comcast local cablemodems to run Vonage lines back to the US. In fact, I set up a bed-and-breakfast with Vonage while I was there. It is simply the cheapest and best way for them to stay in contact and to do business with the states.
I'm in Canada, so I'm not sure if they offer it in the States. But my VoIP is with Primus Telecommunications, and I found the call quality is superior to that of a traditional land line. Granted, I'm from Toronto and right now Bell, rather than putting in new COs, is just splicing and splicing as long as they can get away with it and thus degrading the phone line quality; but nevertheless, I have TalkBroadband (VoIP) over a Rogers Cable signal and I have very few problems. The biggest one I've run into so far is every once in a while, I'll hear low static on my line for 3-5 seconds, but it clears itself up. My one friend used to hate that I was on a cordless phone, because he thought it sounded like I was in a wind tunnel on the old line. Then I hooked up the TBB and he thought I was on a regular corded phone. I was on the same cordless, and had to turn the volume down on it to its lowest setting (before, it was on 3 or 4 of 4). I'm also paying $19.95 a month for the same service that Bell was charging me $70 for, and never repairing anything. To hell with Bell.
