I agree with you on the upgrading the computer thing but Vista has some problems which can't be neglected.

For a start, I had a problem with the YahooVox (which is a Yahelite Voice Chat Plugin).

This version of microsoft actually has some compatibilty issues which must be sorted out.

    Adding on,
lots of applications do not work either on MS VISTA.
Third and the most important issue is related to the Graphic Cards,

I use dual-core processor with 4GB RAM, I rendered the same 3D animation file, in XP it finished 8 hours and in Vista it finished more than 9 hours, 1 hours is a big different time, you can do a lot thing and more productive in 1 hours. For my works I often rendered 3D file more than 18 hours with XP, can't imagine how long in Vista, so I'm absolutely not enjoy using Vista.

Vista doesn't run that great on our computer and we have a Core 2 Quad Processor with 3 Gigs of Ram... so I wouldn't say it has anything to do the computer... its the program itself, but maybe I'm just so used to XP that I just miss it sometimes.

I can run Vista but I think it looks to graphical, so I will stick with XP until microsoft make an OS that will work properly. I've only seen vista on a friends pc, so I haven't really tried it but I'm to used to xp and i think its much better.

I guarantee you the system i have is a lot better than yours, it's only been on the market for 9 days and Vista is still buggy. Upgrading to XP and throwing a dual boot Ubuntu OS in place is the best thing for a Vista PC.

Sorry but the hardware story doesn't cut it when your running a top of the line Q2 2008 CPU and the "OS" is less stable than loading applications off a tape drive on my Commodore 64.

ill go with Vista, though it requieres more RAM, but fast enough for me, as it came preloaded on my HP notebook.

Let me break it down to you

XP-reliable,supports about all the software, minimum impact on pc performance, basic easy GUI.

Vista-more impact on pc performance than XP,does not support all the softwares, sleek looking GUI,software in development that supports vista is lower than that of XP,has many features that is essentially an upgrade from xp like the auto defragmenter

I am sure there are more but thats whats in my mind as of this moment.

I like Vista better than XP. All perhiperals work better and it's a lot more stable. Vista is not XP with a few graphical bells and animated whistles. Vista is based off of Windows 2003 server technology which also annoyingly asks for permissions for a lot of actions. But I run XP on my laptop because of some drivers like my Nikon film scanner and my USB Philips high performance speaker card doesn't have drivers for Vista.

People always like what they're more familiar with. I support an old fogie at work but high up the food chain that still insists we install Windows File Manager (from Win95) on his machine since he likes it better than Windows Explorer.

Win ME was on the market for maybe 15 minutes, still I managed to get 3 computers with that sorry OS. When XP arrived I upgraded to it and saved two machines I thought were total garbage until I saw how they ran with a stable OP system.

Recently had to replace a laptop and though I was a fan of XP, the one I wanted didnt offer it. The computer is good, but I can only dream of the performance it could crank out if it wasnt having to push this bloated op system.

It gets tiring field testing these things for Microsoft. It'd be nice if they'd try 'em out before it is pre-installed on almost every available computer.

Currently I am using a laptop design for vista but I dump vista coz I believe vista is still buggy. And now I run XP service pack 3 with it and I am very satisfied with the output. So obviously my vote goes to XP...

I can't wait for the NEXT OS after Vista just like when XP came after ME.
