If one is starting out afresh, then he would better start with Vista as this OS is the latest offering from Microsoft.

But, for a person already using XP, I see no reason to upgrade to Vista...whatsoever.

Yep, everyone knows Vista is a commercial flop. Not many corporations were migrating anyway and virtually none now due to financial crisis. Upgrade to Windows 7 might even be free!

I currently have Vista installed on all of my computers, and have been happy with it, although it is a resource hog. I just got the beta of Windows 7 and it looks like Microsoft is going in the right direction.

Wow, I know you started this topic in September but I thought all retailers stopped selling their machines with XP loaded. What retailer was it that offered XP? Also, which OS did you end up getting?

Vista is not faster than XP. XP is around 3 gigs on the hd and Vista is around 15 gigs of hd space. In games Vista is slower for sure. You don't get as many frames per second. I use an OCR Fujitsu scanner on Vista and on XP, and it is definitely faster on XP.

Why are you using Vista? I dont belive, that you havent seen Fedora, Ubuntu... This OS's better. Real buitiful, real quickle...
XP - best OS by Microsoft. May be 3.11 better. :)
    Linux - way to future!

Vista IMO, if you know anything about computers, you can disable the things that cause the problems that people are having.
