Unless you cursing skills are uptodate, I'd stick with XP! I have Vista on one two machines (they came that way, only option) but refuse to put it on any of the others, especially those doing higher-level things because many of the packages choke on it still.

XP is best with lower end PCs Vista is awesome with higher end.

If you get vista.. make sure you have dual core and have 3 gigs or more.. otherwise just get XP.

I bought a HP DV6885se with vista for $1000 and it works pretty good for graphics, not so much with gaming (Nvidia 8400GS)

Both have pros and cons, thats why i run both Vista and XP via dual boot, so if you already have a copy of XP then get Vista, if you already have a copy of Vista then get XP, then you can experience the best of both. ;)

Both have different advantages... however, i'd recommend vista since xp will be lacking support in a few years time... vista will be the norm in a few years... however, my preference would be neither ^^

A study showed that the third of new PCs are being downgraded to XP. I would'nt buy a Vista PC.

I prefer XP, it is faster than Vista. I had a notebook with 2GB with Vista, It was running ok, but when I have installed XP in that computer, wow! This is really faster...

Let me give some of my suggestions here. I bought a PC just recently and preloaded with Windows Vista Ultimate. Its a high end PC and Windows Vista works like a charm. I can even have video editing processors running in the background, with Adobe Photoshop CS3 open and I can still run a high end game (such as Crysis) without flaws.

So what I am portraying is that if you have a high end PC, I suggest going with Vista for the purpose of updates, patches and technical support.

However, Win XP works well in both environments, so its up to you...

It all depends on what you want. There are several people out there who build custom PCs for a living. If you want to get the best for your money, you might have to look around a bit.

I'd recommend Vista if you have the power, it is a good experience if you've never seen compiz fusion composite effects for linux distribution Ubuntu, it's the next best thing. It's a pretty OS that will get a lot done; for a price.

I'd recommend XP if you are a more casual computer user. Nothing fancy about it really. But it will do everything vista will that matters. I personally prefer XP, though Vista was alright once SP1 was released (ugh don't remind me of before with all the random memory bloat).

    Hope that helps.

Choose Vista - XP will be slowly losing Microsoft support over the next 4 years. Also, new applications are designed for Vista. And, of course, it looks good!

If you have new hardwares with faster processor, memory then you can switch to vista but if you have less hardware configurations then you must remain in XP :)

XP would be the way to go, depending on the specs of the computer.

Make sure the computer have alot of RAMs if you get Vista. I have 6RAM for computer and it's perfect, no problems and all the programs I installed runs fine with vista. microsoft offices, All adobe's products, and even maya.
