Is there anyway you can change your OS?

I use Vista and I love it. But I'm not that good with computers. My husband hates Vista and went back to XP on his laptop.

I prefer CentOS unfortunately I have to support Windows so I use it just in case a customer asks me how to do things on it. Just yesterday I was asked to set a beautiful pic a customer had as wallpaper.

He certainly hasn't - he purchased DOS from IBM and that's what got him started - he's still a visionary tho :)

BTW; the reason I won't go to Vista is the DRM (Digital Rights Management) controls - I'm gonna keep with XP until there's a decent Linux alternative (Fedora Core 8 looks pretty good so far...)

I'm using Windows Vista too and it runs perfectly (2gb ram 2.4 Ghz d.core, geforce8600gt), but i think that there are 2 main problems:
1.it is not compatible with many old programs and applications
2.it is really expensive, especially Ultimate version

I just wish Microsoft would stop changing the formula on something that works! You learn and figure out where things are in their OS, then they go and COMPLETELY change it in the next OS. I tried adding a wireless network connection in Vista today (something that should take 2 seconds) and it took me 20 minutes just to figure out where I need to go to do that now!!! ARRRRGGGHHHH!

well, I Hate & Like vista all the same (Alls fare in love & War).. I currently have 5 Units here - 2 XP hm editions, 1 XP Pro edition, & 2 Vista Hm Editions. The XP Pro is my Dev Box for Apache/Php/Mysql testing & integrations, 1 XP Hm. is my Design Unit for Vector/Paint/Raster/Flash/CAD, 1 XP Hm. is a catch all (The oldest Unit), & Both Vista Hm.'s are used for Data Entry/Accounting.

What it all boils down to for me & why i keep different tasks on different widows OS's is software compatibility & standby Ram hogging. What I mean by this is that not All software companies have release a windows Vista compatible application yet (Thus limiting what can be used on it) Mainly the smaller companies struggling to compete with the corporate mongers like Adobe, Microsoft, etc... As far as the Ram hogging goes, I think we all know by now that Vista runs programs in a standby mode in order to execute faster, Because of this it does use more ram than XP on a continual basis. What I have found is that anything under 2gb Ram on a Vista OS is going to have some sluggish times. 1.5gb ram seems to run it ok, but obviously slower than a 1.5gb ram XP with the same processor.

what some don't take into account when analyzing is that it takes the Ram & the Processor in order to produce faster experiences. I have to agree with some of the others on this thread & don't understand myself why manufacturing companies are building units with Vista & using insufficient Ram/Processors. My only thought is that its a premeditated Marketing ploy to get people to upgrade sooner & or buy more Ram. (Gotta Love a corporate world)

At any rate, I like Both my Vista's & Xp's for their individual tasks I have assigned them (Keeping in mind Ram/Processor). Until more software that I use becomes compatible, I add more Ram, & or Upgrade my processors - I won't be using my vista's for Any Design or Dev applications.

Just my thoughts on the matter (Coming from someone that currently uses Both OS's). Good luck everyone!:)

I sure did. Vista does not run half of the premium software I use and it is very slow.

Nothing works on Vista and it makes my computer slow. I changed back to XP after 1 month and will never install vista again.

Idk after Service Pack 1 is released, we should see a significant speed increase. And honestly, with a DX10 video card, a dual core processor, and at least 2 gigs of RAM, Vista runs as smooth as butter.

it is too bad that Microsoft had to get greedy instead of doing what was best for most of us computer users, XP is fine for us and I won't get vista

This is the biggest complaints I get from customers that are using Vista. Their very frustrated that they just learn how to do things and Microsoft changes things around again.

i would say one word about it....... Vista Rocks!!!!!

A few years back when there was only win98, and when Win Xp comes all my friends were saying that win98 is the best and Xp is not good.......... but as the time passes they were all using Xp and saying its rocks....!!!

The same situation here now.... we are using Xp and we are satisfy with Xp but now the new arrival is Vista and all we are saying that Xp is good and Vista is not........ but remember my words, when time passes all of you will be using Vista and will be happy with it.

Vista is nothing compared to ubuntu. If only windows isn't the one-way corporation that it is, a collaboration would have been great

You’re not lucky. Vista was but to have so many features compiled into one OS. Those who complain it’s slow really need to upgrade their hardware. I have been running vista since it was in beta testing and I can fill up this page explaining the benefits of upgrading from xp to vista. FACT is. The operating system is heavy, so by having the appropriate hardware and sufficient memory you should be able to see its full capabilities.

I love Vista. I've got 3gb of RAM running at 883mb(29%) and things are going just dandy. I do hate the annoying pop-up "are you sure you want to do that" boxes, but XP was much worse.
