Umm I think what your trying to say is Linux is faster than Vista, and that will always be true. Linux is maintained by some of the most skilled programmers in the world, and Microsoft basically is a bunch of "gun for hires".
Um, are you baiting? Anyone who works in web security knows Microsoft only uses Windows/IIS to run their websites. I even have the architectural layout of their web farms and it all appears to be Windows. I had a look at your claims and went to http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://www.microsoft.com Maybe you see something I don't.
That depends on hat you do with it. I'm on a Core 2 Duo 6300 with 2gb ram, got photoshop, firefox, dreamweaver, and many other things open. 2%-10% highs. And yes, mine is a XP: Media Center. Vista is crap though.
You need to check it once more this is the results I got: Results for microsoft.com Found 355 sites Site Site Report First seen Netblock OS 1. www.microsoft.com Site Report August 1995 Microsoft Corp unknown 2. update.microsoft.com Site Report February 2005 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 3. download.microsoft.com Site Report August 1999 Akamai Technologies Linux 4. v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com Site Report January 2004 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 5. search.microsoft.com Site Report January 1997 ADSL endpoints NAT conections only Linux 6. windowsupdate.microsoft.com Site Report February 1999 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 7. msdn.microsoft.com Site Report September 1998 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 8. go.microsoft.com Site Report November 2001 MS Hotmail Windows Server 2003 9. v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com Site Report November 2001 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 10. oca.microsoft.com Site Report November 2001 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 11. r.office.microsoft.com Site Report November 2003 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 12. msdn2.microsoft.com Site Report November 2004 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2008 13. technet.microsoft.com Site Report August 1999 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 14. research.microsoft.com Site Report October 1996 Microsoft Corp unknown 15. lab.msdn.microsoft.com Site Report January 2004 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 16. microsoft.com Site Report May 1996 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 17. members.microsoft.com Site Report November 2001 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 18. drmlicense.one.microsoft.com Site Report November 2002 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 19. forums.microsoft.com Site Report May 2005 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 20. search.msdn.microsoft.com Site Report March 2006 Microsoft Corp Windows Server 2003 Next page Until recently Microsoft only ran Freebsd. Microsoft didnt use Linux or BSD, alot of their http services are served thru Akamai CDN who do use Linux
You are clutching at straws right now to try and justify your earlier posts. Your proof showed a NAT'd address and Akamai using Linux which had nothing to do with Microsoft's infrastructure as you had claimed earlier. In regards to Microsoft using Akamai, it appears you are not even aware of who and what Akamai is. Are you aware that up to 20% of internet traffic is provided by Akamai? Akamai allows mirrored content globally and provides high traffic gateways/content to users. Microsoft uses them as it is the easiest way to distribute downloadable content due the already established infrastructure of Akamai. It is simply a smart business decision. Why should Microsoft not do business with companies using Linux? BTW, Akamai does not use Linux exclusively.
let me take a wild guess: to save money! since Akamai are the worlds biggest CDN reaching a large chunk of the internet users fast do you think Microsoft hate everything thats linux? you should stop reading Digg and talking out of your arse! do you even know how to run a linux machine? from cli only? My company runs own CDN, we reach almost 1% of internet users daily, all on linux servers which i have to manage i find it amusing when people talk about linux, when they dont have a f**king clue
Well anyway, back to the Vista discussion. I have Vista installed on a new HP laptop Dual core with 2G ram and the OS is still dam slow. When my Antivirus kicks in the system nearly freezes, multitasking is a joke. In my opinion Linux is still the best OS when it comes to taking the most out of the hardware available.
Vista is ok. its good with the dx10 if you have the gfx card to support it. but i would much prefer XP, simply because i know how to use it.
First of all we where not talking about Linux but about what Microsoft is running. I use the command prompt mostly to manage a web server. MySQL, PHP, Apache, Linux. I will have to take your word that your the Linux expert that you claim. I can not verify if you are or not.
Microsoft admits it still hasn't upgraded its Hotmail system to Windows, almost four years after embarking on the task, and fifteen months after the first load balancing machines began to be shifted to Windows 2000 from FreeBSD. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/12/12/microsoft_hotmail_still_runs/
well done you are after digging up a 7 year old article, you trully are speaking out of your backside
You do realise that Hotmail was not developed by Microsoft. Also, that article dates from when Windows NT was around. In modern times, that article now exists as part of the history of hotmail.com. Hotmail now runs on IIS. I am not sure how we went from Microsoft's web servers to Hotmail though. You may have done well to check netcraft as well - http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://www.hotmail.com
Many web forums, including those at Anandtech and Slashdot are discussing the irony of the www.microsoft.com site apparently running Linux. Additionally, we are seeing a quantity of mail asking why we are reporting www.microsoft.com running the “impossible†combination of the Linux operating system and Microsoft-IIS/6.0 web server. http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2003/08/17/wwwmicrosoftcom_runs_linux_up_to_a_point_.html
You are again bringing in old archival news. As it stands now, Microsoft does not use Linux on its Webservers. As a Slashdot regular, I have seen all those threads before, years ago.
