My friend's computer has a 1.9 Gig AMD Athlon 62 X2 and 1 GB of ram and it seems to work just fine. I don't think you need 8 GB of ram to get decent speed out of Vista.

Ahh, ofcourse. Thanks for clearing that up Greg
Off topic, has anybody tried booting & running XP off a thumb drive? I'd like to know if it can be done, how, and if it is stable. Please PM me!

I was very anti-vista until i saw it on my friends computer, it has alot of cool features.

There was alot of early hate for Vista because of compatibility issues with alot of hardware, but you have to remember all Windows versions started like this.

Vista is very resource heavy though and to get the most out of it, you want 4GB of RAM.

Im still not planning on using Vista, mainly because XP better suits my gaming needs.

I have used both Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta. But I am now back with XP due to software incompatibilities (dreamweaver and gta San andreas not working)

I have been using Vista Ultimate 64Bit since it came out, haven't had any issues that I can think of so far. Excited for Win7 to come out however...

Your biggest issue is going to be memory with most computers seeing 4GB or more. This means you'll need the 64bit version of XP. I'd recommend Vista's 64bit over the XP one as I've found the drivers more stable.

Vista is indeed very resource intensive in that it uses too much of RAM for its GUI and creates performance issues

Currently using Vista, some games aren't able to run for the first time, but once change the game to run under xp compatibility, it run smoothly. I think same to some software if they are unable to run on vista. I've tried running with 1GB Ram only, and a Pentium 4 2.4, seems to be ok with it.

Are you referring to the original release or the SP1 version?
