Ofcourse, they barely drop the price in the US. Vista prices cut by as much as 48%, but not in U.S. Prices for the OS will be trimmed 15% to 20% in the U.S.
I think its a little to for microsoft to regain that edge from previously released versions of windows. Vista was over hyped and over priced not to mention the open source community is quietly gain strides
As someone with experience of Vista, I think it's also an idea to wait until it settles. I'm so sick of the blue screen of death and other arbitrary problems, things that didn't happen on XP and 98SE.
I'm waiting until: (a) The bugs are worked out (b) The price is reasonable (c) Windows XP is no longer supported (d) I have a computer which can comfortably run Vista Until then, my 2GHz XP machine is fine and dandy.
Good to know they cut down the price, if they think someone from India or Ukraine will pay $300 for OS - they are out of their mind.
Vista was wayyyyy to expensive when it launched plus it's a POS. Once they start fixing things up with it I may consider getting it.
all i care is that everything i use will work.. which is why i only use Windows.. and only ever will.. except for my servers!
Yes, Linux has advanced greatly. Ubuntu should be easy to use for anyone that is moderately experienced with windows, and they will likely see how powerful and capable it is.
XP and 98 both had these issues, and wheren't really considered stable until sp2 (98SE for windows 98 - as you stated) the first SP seemed to iron out major issues, and the second sp's seemed to getting rid of all the little bugs, would assume it'll be the same for Vista.
I have used Vista and I am not satisfied with its performance yet. For me Win Xp Pro still rocks... Will wait until Vista takes over Xp...
I agree, although I'd replace "assume" with "hope". I should have clarified in my previous post: XP and 98SE also had BSOD and other arbitrary crashes, but I'm getting them to the point beyond ridiculous on Vista. This despite having had to reformat and reinstall, twice already and due for its third.
Even it cut the priceby half, it still too high for me and the worse part is my computer still not ready to install Vista yet.
