I still will go with xp because for some reason, vista is extremely buggy for me. Even with sp2, 4 gig of ram and a core2duo processor.

I much prefer XP to Vista - it's just too bloated for me. It will be interesting to see if the final version of Windows 7 has made amends for Vista. Hopefully they've learnt their lesson.

It's not hard to consume less when Vista consumes all of your RAM. Granted Vista dishes it out to your programs after, but it still grabs it all nonetheless (just check task manager and look at your less than 50mb "free" memory after only a few minutes of startup). At least XP leaves it well alone. It's literally impossible to run more than a certain number of videos (basically overload the memory beyond the 50meg allotment) on one page in firefox on Vista (but it's possible in XP) because of Microsoft limiting memory allotment on their competitor's program.

Frankly, I'm not optimistic about Windows 7 either. I might finally be inconvenienced enough to make a leap to Linux. Frankly there's an issue of trust that I have with Microsoft too and shouldn't everyone? especially considering all the important things we do with our computers and the monopoly Microsoft has. /rant

Unless Windows 7 gives us a lot less of microsoft meddling (remember the WGA fears back in the day when it was first introduced? )... I think if anything we can expect more of that type of crap.

Windows 7 is comparable in speed with respect to XP and use lot less resources than Vista.

I have been using XP on my desktop for a long time now and I guess XP is much better and faster than Vista. I have Vista on my laptop and it frequently makes my laptop freeze. I actually disable almost all its graphic features, and I'm sort of having a very bland Vista theme running on my laptop.

Vista 64 bit now, sucks, nothing is available for the 64 bit systems!

Will upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for backwards compatibility.

Vista has worked marvelously for me to this day. Haven't had any compatibility issues. I use it mainly for my CAD program and some Photoshop here and there.

However, I prefer to use XP for the video games.
